Garfield Town -  Annual Meeting

April 16, 2024

 

Present:   Chairman:  Ed Gullickson

Meeting called to order by Chairman, Ed Gullickson, at 7:00 pm.

 

Minutes of Last Annual Meeting:  Minutes from last year’s annual meeting were read.  Motion made and seconded to approve the annual meeting minutes as submitted. Carried-unanimously.

 

Concerns: Jason Kjeseth asked questions about the reassessment.  Gullickson explained the reassessment that the Town has to stay in compliance with the State.  Town’s levy should only go up the normal increase.  

 

Jason Kjeseth commented on his support of the fire department and addition of the Junior program.

 

 

Annual Statement:  2023 Annual Statement was explained by the Board.  Motion made and seconded to approve the 2023annual statement as submitted. Carried unanimously.

 

Road Concerns:  Sunrise Beach boat landing received a $125,000 grant from the State to reconstruct the boat landing.  New pay machines were installed at the Garfield and Sunrise Beach boat landings.  There were approximately four miles of roads that were blacktopped.  Plans for this year the Town is applying for another TRI-Grant to be put towards blacktopping Sunrise Beach Drive near the boat landing.  Work on 138thStreet from County Road F to 70th Avenue will start and will not be done until 2025.  90th Avenue from Kelzer’s to Shock’s will have work done on it also.  155th Street needs a lot work done and the Town will apply for a grant on that project for furture reconstruction.

 

Allied Emergency Services:  Dave Campbell, Assistant Fire Chief, submitted information on the total runs for the past year. The Department had 361 runs. The fire department covers approximately 135 square miles. A new Junior Program has been started, seven new juniors have joined.  This year’s spaghetti dinner fundraiser served between 725-750 people.Final numbers for money raised are not in yet. May 12th will be our 29th annual Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser – all are welcome to attend. In the fall Station 3 will have their fundraiser.  The proceeds were used to a Lucas for each station.  In August 2023 the Service received a FEMA grant in the amount of $290,419.04, new SCBA air packs will be purchased with some of the proceeds.  These community fundraisers have allowed the purchase of equipment outside the normal budgeting process.

 

Ambulance Merger:  Gullickson explained the merger and how it has improved the surrounding communities.

 

Gopher Bounty:  Motion made and seconded to keep the pocket gopher bounty at $3.00 per tail, no bounty on stripe gopher tails.  Carried-unanimously. 

 

Annual Meeting Date to Co-Inside With Regular Board Meeting:  Motion made and seconded to have the Annual Meeting to co-inside with the regular Board Meeting next yearon April 8, 2025.  Carried-unanimously.

 

Adjourn:  Motion made and seconded to adjourn meeting, 7:5pm. Carried-unanimously.
